Dear Tarot Lover, It's that time again! It's been awhile since we said our goodbyes at RS 2009. And now it's time to open our doors again for The Readers Studio 2010. If you're reading this page right now, chances are, you love Tarot. And as a “Tarot person,” you undoubtedly know just how powerfully Tarot can create deep and lasting change. It's not an understatement to say that… All it takes is just ONE caring reader, a Tarot deck, and a moment… As we closed the circle at RS 2009, we reflected — as we always do — on the magic that had just transpired. As always, something very specific bubbled up in our contemplations. Over the past 8 years, The Readers Studio community has transformed into something unbelievably special, that is certain. But a community is ultimately a collection of individuals. And that leads us to consider… What happens when a community of over 200 passionate Tarot lovers ![]()
We can tell you, because we've seen it happen over and over again at The Readers Studio…
Awe and amazement, gratitude and humility… as we've watched the accomplishments of Readers Studio attendees, we've felt all of those things and more. Of course… as any spiritual seeker will tell you, there is a time for reflection, and there is a time for celebration. We think it's high time to celebrate! New To The Readers Studio? Read This First!
Most of our attendees return to The Readers Studio year after year. They “know the drill,” so to speak. However, if you're brand new, you might be wondering, “What the heck is this thing called The Readers Studio?” (We know this page is really long, so we want to make it easy to find the answer!) The Readers Studio is an annual conference for Tarot enthusiasts hosted by Ruth Ann & Wald Amberstone of The Tarot School (that's us!). Each year, Tarot lovers from around the world travel to New York City, where they spend 3 whirlwind (and very fun!) days together. They come to connect with like minds, immerse themselves in a pursuit they love… and improve their skills very, very quickly. The core of The Readers Studio is 3 half-day Tarot master classes, given by top authorities in the field. (Over the past 7 years, we've had the pleasure of bringing in just about every major Tarot thinker, scholar or teacher you can think of who is active on the Tarot scene today.) In these hands-on sessions, you'll learn cutting-edge, practical reading techniques. No theoretical lectures! At The Readers Studio, our community is our highest value. Our highest commitment is to provide the best Tarot training available. To honor both, we hold each of the 3 main presentations in the grand ballroom of the hotel where the event is hosted. We all learn together — and that includes the presenters! (When they're not on stage, they're in the audience, learning with you.) And because there's only one track on the main stage, you'll never have to choose between the main sessions. Of course, as anyone who has been to The Studio will tell you, the master classes are just the beginning. Every Readers Studio features “a la carte” study groups and events that you can pick and choose. It's not an exaggeration to say that there's always something for a Tarot lover to do — morning, noon and (late!) into the night. As your hosts, we're thrilled to welcome you to this page. We invite you to grab a cup of tea, make yourself comfy and read this page from start to finish. We know it's long, but we promise it's worthwhile. You'll get a great feel for what The Readers Studio experience is like, and you'll meet some Very Important People — the people who attend. It's their presence that makes The Readers Studio what it is — THE not-to-be-missed Tarot event of the year. We hope that 2010 is the first of many Readers Studios for you — we would love to see you there! Bright blessings and love, ![]() When we began The Readers Studio back in 2003, we knew that we wanted to provide the best practical training to passionate Tarot lovers everywhere. And host a big Tarot party for all of our friends! Truthfully, we had no idea what would ultimately unfold. (Some might call that ironic for Tarot readers, we know!) Time has shown that we have succeeded beyond measure in our original intent, and we couldn't be happier about that. But what makes us happier still is watching the changes ripple outward from our extraordinary community and into the lives of the people in it. As we head into our 8th year, we'd like to shine the spotlight on some past Readers Studio attendees. We think you'll agree that their accomplishments in the world of Tarot and beyond are extraordinary, and truly inspiring. Please join us in celebrating all of these folks! Then keep reading to discover how you can create your OWN success story… by joining us for The Readers Studio in 2010. (Want YOUR story featured on this page? Be sure to read all the way to the end, to learn how you can nab your share of the spotlight and see YOUR Readers Studio success story posted here!) Find The Confidence To
“Come Out Of The Tarot Closet”… And Even Go Pro One of the questions we hear most often is “Do I have to be a professional reader to come to The Readers Studio?” The answer is, definitely not! (More on that later — keep reading!) Nonetheless, we've noticed a “curious” phenomenon. Many of those people who ask that question DO come to The Studio, as beginners, “in the closet” or otherwise hiding or downplaying their talents. After 3 days with their decks in hand, practicing and learning with fellow readers… their skills deepen, their confidence soars, and they finally “get” what we knew all along — they are Tarot readers! (And oh yeah, they also get out there and start getting paying clients.) Coincidence? We don't think so!
![]() From Reading Part-Time To Reading Full-Time…
And So Much More Many of our attendees are already reading professionally in some way, usually part time. For some, that's just enough and just fine! Other “Tarot people,” however, are born readers, healers, and teachers who want to take it further… but aren't sure how. Over the years, with the skills and support they gain at The Readers Studio, many of our attendees gain the courage and confidence to boldly step into their “right livelihood.” We couldn't be happier to be part of the process!
![]()
![]() Find A Warm Welcome For Your Work… And (Maybe!) A Publishing Deal Do you have a Tarot deck you've been working on? Or a Tarot book you're pouring your soul into? Whatever your labor of Tarot love, The Readers Studio is the perfect place to find an eager audience… and perhaps even a publishing deal! We have relationships with several major New Age publishers, most of whom have been to The Readers Studio at one point or another. At least one publisher, or publishing industry expert, is usually in the ballroom every year. (And we can guarantee that there will always be “somebody who knows somebody who...!”) Within the connecting and open vibe at The Readers Studio, you'll find it easy to make those crucial connections. Who knows? The next publishing success story could be you! (You won't know unless you join us!)
![]()
![]()
![]() Find A Tribe… And A Place To Call Home As we've said, when we created The Readers Studio, our intention was to provide a place where Tarot lovers could get intensive training in practical reading skills from the very best teachers in Tarot. (Okay, and we wanted an excuse to invite our friends to New York City every year, too!) And that's still what The Readers Studio is all about. But so many of our readers have told us that while our expert line-ups and practical take-aways may have initially attracted them, something much deeper calls them back, year after year without fail…
![]()
If you love Tarot, you belong at The Readers Studio. And whether this is your 8th event or your very first, there has never been a better time to join us, because 2010 is going to be very special indeed! We've added more opportunities to learn and more opportunities for FUN — keep reading this page for the full scoop! Why did we add so much? The big reason is, because we love our attendees! And adding extras just felt right because this year we have even one more reason to celebrate… The Centennial of the Rider-Waite-Smith Deck!
One of the most influential decks in all of Tarot (and the deck of choice at The Tarot School) is 100 years old in 2010! While we're not making that the theme of the party, we'd be remiss if we didn't have a few goodies up our sleeves to celebrate… and so we do! Starting with… ![]() The 2010 Readers Studio Presenters!
Mary's rich contributions to the field continue to grow and include the writing of her incredibly popular Tarot blog, where she posts new articles regularly. A longtime friend of The Tarot School, past RS presenter and a familiar face for Readers Studio attendees, Mary has also presided as Priestess at our wedding!. We're thrilled that she will return in 2010 as a master class instructor.
A noted scholar and frequent lecturer on the Western Mystery Tradition, Bob has taught at The Open Center, The World Tarot Congress, The New York Tarot Festival, The East Coast Tarot Symposium, The Third International Conference of the Association for Esoteric Studies, The Omega Institute, The New York Theosophical Society, The Museo Dei Tarocchi (in Riola, Italy), and — of course! — The Readers Studio. Segments of his lectures have appeared on the Learning Channel, Discovery, and A&E. Bob has a genuine gift for making esoteric concepts accessible without sacrificing their integrity. His teaching combines his scholarship of Tarot, mysticism, the Western Traditions, art history and his own firsthand deep knowledge of the deck as creator and a working artist. Bob will take the stage once again in 2010 to present an engaging, original reading technique that you'll be glad to add to your repertory. For the past thirty-five years, Elinor has explored a variety of therapeutic approaches to personal growth and integrated their methods into her practice of psychotherapy. After studying Tarot intensely, she became convinced that Tarot insights have long been undervalued and could be useful additions to the practice of psychotherapy. Elinor developed an integrated approach called Tarot Counseling that combines elements of both Tarot and psychotherapy and can be used by practitioners of each system. In a first, she gave workshops on Tarot Counseling at two different psychotherapy training institutes and made it a condition that both the tarot community and the psychotherapy community be permitted to attend and work together. Elinor's article, “Tarot Counseling,” appeared in Llewellyn's Tarot Reader 2007. Her presentation on that topic was a favorite of RS07 and still gets rave reviews from those who were there. Elinor's 2010 presentation will undoubtedly be just as memorable! ![]() In honor of its centennial, our 2010 presenters were selected in part for their deep knowledge of the Rider-Waite-Smith Deck. Of course, we can't resist contributing something new on this special occasion… The Readers Studio Pre-Conference Class 2010:
![]() ![]() Pamela Colman Smith left us a great legacy of significant imagery in the deck that, more than any other, has dominated 20th century tarot. This is the centennial anniversary year of that deck, and we are going to celebrate and honor her contribution to it in our Thursday pre-conference class. There is so much depth and such dazzling complexity of detail in her imagery that we can't begin to do justice to it all. This class will focus on just three things that elicit deep responses from everyone who uses the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, even when they aren't aware of it. The first is color, whose pervasive presence sets the intuitive mood in every card. The second is costume, which gives the overall context for interpretation. Third is what we call choreography, the stances and actions which show us the definitive energy and direction of the intent of each image. Although we will limit ourselves to these three aspects of her art, our class will be an introduction and a tribute to the importance of Pixie Smith's contribution to the enduring power of RWS. It will also give you an amazingly useful addition to your repertoire of practical tarot knowledge that you can use with most decks. The pre-conference class is OUR chance to give you all-new tools to add to your Tarot bag. We encourage you to take advantage of this special opportunity because the class always consists of cutting-edge material we've never presented to a large audience (and might never again). You won't want to miss it! Pre-Conference Class w/ the Amberstones |

“Whether you're an old hand or brand new,
your understanding will take a quantum leap forward!” Coming to the annual Readers Studio should be one of the highest priorities for any Tarot person. In fact, I can't imagine NOT attending every year. Whether you are an old hand, or new to the practice, your understanding will take a quantum leap forward. The featured workshops and presentations are of the very highest caliber. And the friendly camaraderie of being in the company of the world's finest readers, teachers and practitioners is pure joy. You owe it to yourself to discover who you can become as a reader, when you are given the most nurturing imaginable environment. Thrive and grow with the very best! — Beth Owl's Daughter |

The cornerstone of The Readers Studio curriculum is the master sessions with our 3 presenters. This is your chance to learn directly from Tarot's luminaries — the people who write the books on your bookshelf. (Note: we always ask them to save their best stuff for us!)
The master sessions are three hours long, so you can truly enjoy soaking up all they have to share AND put your new skills into practice right away. You'll learn as much from your table-mates as you will from the presenters! (Who take full part in the festivities and just might sit next to you when they're not on stage, by the way.)
And for those who want more, there's always….

If “Tarot 101” at your local metaphysical shop has lost its luster, imagine having your pick of 10 Tarot Study Groups, each one taught by an established or up and coming Tarot expert. Each interactive workshop is a labor of love, so be sure to bring a little extra spending money! (You'll pay the nominal $35 fee per workshop directly to the instructor.)
The after-hours Study Groups are always a standout and we already have some incredible teachers on board for 2010. As usual, we have a full roster of experts from our community presenting on their given topics:
FRIDAY, APRIL 23
The Fifth Tarot: Expanding into the Ethers – Teressena & Martien Bakens
Dilemmas & Pitfalls of Relationship Readings – Gina Thies
From Dreams to Tarot and Back Again – Paula Chaffee Scardamalia
The Many Faces of Group Members – Bev Haskins
Crystal Ball Scrying – Marilyn Shannon
SATURDAY, APRIL 24
Introduction to the Gaian Tarot – Joanna Powell Colbert
Tarot, Feng Shui & Floor Plans – Jordan Hoggard & Stephanie Lockemann
Tarot and the Body: Get Physical! – Carolyn R. Guss
Enhancing Your Design of Tarot Workshops – Paul Nagy
Rune Casting – Morwenna Morasch

At The Readers Studio, the festivities always last late into the night, and that's part of the fun! Nonetheless, we realize that not everyone is a night owl, and early birds need love too.
Corrine Kenner hosted the first Readers Studio Breakfast Roundtable at RS06 and they've become more and more popular each year. Purchase your breakfast at the hotel restaurant and bring it next door to The Empire Lounge — or just come and sit in on the discussions. This year's hosts are…
Paul Quinn's new book, Tarot For Life, was released in June 2009. Tarot For Life has quickly become a bestseller — and a new Tarot classic to boot! Paul's book is getting rave reviews and kudos from luminaries like Rachel Pollack (who wrote the forward) and Sonia Choquette. You'll have the opportunity to learn from Paul firsthand at his Breakfast Roundtable on Saturday morning.
Donnaleigh de LaRose is a Tarot professional, intuitive healer and workshop facilitator who co-hosts Beyond Worlds, a popular Internet radio show on BlogTalkRadio. A gifted artist, Donnaleigh combines her artistic and psychic talents in her one-of-a-kind Spirit Guide Portrait readings, where she creates a beautiful portrait and channels messages from her clients' spirit guides. She is also an experienced teacher of the psychic arts. You don't want to miss this unique Breakfast Roundtable with Donnaleigh on Sunday morning!
The Breakfast Roundtables are a rollicking good time, but if you're an early bird who would like a more gentle way to greet the day, we have just the thing for you!
Carolyn Cushing will be leading a special Saturday morning session in the Meditation Room. Experience the symbols, characters, and deep wisdom of the Tarot in an hour-long session that will include energy balancing, guided visualization, and meditation. You'll spend the majority of time focused inwardly, and then there will be time for journaling and a brief sharing of experiences in Circle. Bring your favorite Tarot deck and a notebook / journal.

We don't call it The Readers Studio for nothing! Our main sessions will give you plenty of hands-on practice time to cement what you've learned. But that's just when class is in session…
We go to great lengths to create a space that's conducive to readings whenever it strikes your fancy. Come armed with cards and ready to read everywhere: in the bar, at dinner, in the lobby, in our new Readers Studio lounge, and long into the night.
As if all that wasn't enough, once again we've added some extra opportunities to read, learn and transform your practice this year — keep reading for the full scoop!
“Hang on a second — I'm a beginner!YES! If you're comfortable giving a 3-card reading without the help of a book, you're more than ready for the learning end of The Readers Studio. (Meanwhile, we'll just assume that you already have the requisite “skill set” to hang out and have fun with The Readers Studio crowd.)
Over the years, our beginners have become some of our biggest success stories. IF you're a new reader, The Readers Studio is the perfect place for you to hone your chops and build your confidence. And we're proud to say that at The Readers Studio, Tarotists of ANY skill level will be welcomed by a community of like minds.

“I was welcomed as a valued equal.”
I'd never done a "professional" reading, and a small part of me feared being singled out as the newbie at the Studio. Of course that never happened. I was welcomed as a valued equal and my ideas and interpretations were accepted as equal to my fellow attendees. — Andrew Robinson |

|
“You'll feel welcomed and worthy…”
The Readers Studio is hard to put into words. You meet the most magnificent people in our field and feel welcomed and worthy. Even lunches are as informative as the workshops because of the networking and easy conversations. — Nancy Antenucci |

“I can be with my fellow seekers…
There are no barriers, just total acceptance.”
What I love most about The Studio is that it's a place where I can be with my fellow seekers, without judgment — there are no barriers, just total acceptance. We share ideas new and old, each of us growing with the help of the other. The sessions are always out of this world and the hands-on exercises give you the chance to absorb what you learn, right there on the spot. I come back to The Readers Studio each year to connect with a wonderful group of people who have become an extension of my family. The energy and learning that goes on in this “world apart from the world” fulfills me and inspires me to study and discover more about Tarot — and hence, about myself. — Matt Brooks |

It's a great question! Over the years, we've noticed a few dead-giveaways that you belong here…
You're passionate about Tarot and are always looking for a new deck, book, or spread to try…
You've dreamed of working side-by-side with your favorite authors but have never had the chance (or never pass up the chance!)
You love to splurge on Tarot decks and books (yay!) but hate waiting for them to arrive in the mail (boo!)…
You love the connection of Tarot online communities and want to experience the feeling “in real life”…
You live in an area without a lot of "Tarot people" and wish you had a place of your own to call home…
You live in an area with a lot of Tarot people and you can't get enough of hanging with the tribe!
And perhaps most importantly…
The idea of breathing, sleeping, eating and dreaming Tarot for an entire weekend makes you positively giddy with excitement (you're not alone, trust us…)
… then mark your calendar NOW (April 23-25) because you won't want to miss it!

“A rare place that Tarot lovers
can truly call their own…” From the moment you secure your seat with Ruth Ann and Wald, you feel welcome and part of a vibrant, fun, exciting event. As soon as you walk into the hotel you hear Tarot being spoken and instantly you know that you belong here. The community is by far my favorite part of The Readers Studio. Laughter fills the room. But make no mistake, this group works as hard as it plays! The Foundation reading continues to astound. Everything you learn is illuminated with passion and clarity in the final reading of the weekend. You know before you say good bye that you have learned far more than you ever expected. Last year, I recommended The Readers Studio to a fellow Tarot lover. To be honest, I could not find the words to really capture the energy, the wisdom, the compassion and the camaraderie that swirl through the whole three days. She attended on my say so! She is still amazed and awed at the whole experience. She has made friends, established business contacts, blossomed as a reader as did I. The Readers Studio is that rare place that Tarot lovers can truly call their own. I can hardly wait for RS10! — Marilyn Shannon |

“The minute you arrive,
you'll know you are home.”
The power of The Readers Studio draws the “best in the world” from all over the world. But don't worry if you're just starting out — the community is welcoming to all. The minute you arrive at the hotel, you'll know right away that you are home. The master sessions are always on the cutting edge of Tarot, and thanks to the evening study groups and extra sessions Wald & Ruth Ann always throw in, you truly can learn more in a weekend than you normally could in a month. The vendor tables (my own included!) are famous for the exquisite, the exotic and the magical! Best of all is after-hours, where everyone comes together to relax, kick back and have some fun. (You'll find us in the bar or at one of my infamous suite parties — you're invited, so be sure to stop by my table!) If you go to one Tarot conference a year… this is THE ONE you want to attend! – Connie “Garnet*” Schaeffer |
Food is always a big question on everyone's minds at The Readers Studio and mealtimes are a big part of the experiece, so we've included two special extras for you in 2010…

We know that figuring out the answer to “what's for lunch?” can interrupt the flow of a perfect Tarot-filled day! So here's a yummy alternative: a gourmet lunch with the entire Readers Studio community while enjoying a bonus presentation. Best part? Both are on us!
We're proud to announce that our Lunch N' Learn speaker is… Dan Pelletier of The Tarot Garden!
As co-owner of the popular online boutique The Tarot Garden, Dan's commitment to Tarot is legendary. When it comes to the food, the menu is still developing but rest assured that it will be delicious! You'll have an abundance of choice, suitable for both carnivores and vegetarians alike.
For the past two years, we've brought our community together for a kick-off cocktail party. But let's face it — waiting in line for those Swedish meatballs can be a drag. So this year, we're switching it up a little!
Included in your registration is your ticket to a sumptuous sit-down banquet on Saturday night. The meal will be entirely table service — no waiting in line. So you can sit back, relax, and focus on what you came for: spending quality time with your friends.
Dressing in your “Tarot finest” for the banquet is entirely optional — you're welcome to wear whatever makes you comfortable. That said, if you want to pack a little extra something for this special occasion, we highly encourage it!

“When I come to The Readers Studio,
I'm among kindred spirits….”
When I come to The Readers Studio, I know what it truly means to be among kindred spirits. The camaraderie, alone, is enough to keep me coming back every year. I think this is what Joseph Campbell meant when he said to "follow your bliss!” Anyone with a passion for Tarot should follow their bliss to The Readers Studio. It truly is an experience not to be missed! – Valerie Sherill |
Oh yes, there will be goodies…

“Laughter and tenderness…”
My reunion with people too numerous to mention individually (I adore ALL of you!) touched me deeply. There were moments of rib-aching laughter juxtaposed with moments of tenderness that brought tears to my eyes. “Sir James” Wells |

Your chances of winning are… well, statistics never were our strong suit, but let's just say they're pretty darned good. So set your intention and be sure to listen for your name! ![]()

Even if you're on the tightest budget, you won't leave empty-handed! All the same, we encourage you to tuck a little spending money into your Tarot bag because…

Always one of the weekend's highlights, The Celebrity Psychic Fair is your opportunity to get a personal reading from your favorite Tarot authors, teachers and deck creators!
One behind-the-scenes secret to our success is that we invite each and every past presenter back to The Readers Studio every year.
As you can imagine, we've amassed quite the star-studded line-up over the years. And the reason why we do it is YOU!
It's truly a treat to rub shoulders with the people who create the books and decks you love and learn from… and what better way to get up close and personal than a reading? If you've ever wanted Mary Greer, Rachel Pollack, Corrine Kenner, James Wells or Bob Place to read for you, The Celebrity Psychic Fair is the chance you've been waiting for.
(More Tarot celebs are added as registration progresses, so be sure to check back to see who else will be on hand to read for you!)

If you've been to The Studio before, you know that the energy is high and the action is pretty much non-stop! We want to be sure you enjoy it all, so once again we'll create your sanctuary-away-from-home, The Readers Studio Meditation Room.
The Meditation Room is your place to relax, renew and re-charge. Ground and center, enjoy a moment to yourself or simply connect with Spirit. We encourage you to take breaks when you need them so that you can get the most out of your Readers Studio experience.
Every year, Sunday comes all too soon. Before we say our goodbyes, we end each Readers Studio with a community forum and achievement ceremony to celebrate and commemorate a weekend full of good work and good times.
You'll hear special announcements from the members of your community. (And if you have an announcement, be sure to let us know!) Then we'll present you with a certificate of achievement as your Tarot family cheers you on!
We've created two ways that you can stay connected with your Tarot tribe, even after the weekend is over! Join fellow readers for virtual Readers Studio gatherings all year long online and over the telephone!
When you register for the conference, we'll send you an invitation to our exclusive Readers Studio Ning social network, complete with message board, photo galleries, event calendar and much more. Keep your Readers Studio friends up-to-date with your own personal page, blog, activity log, and videos. Over 400 Readers Studio enthusiasts are members, including Tarot authors and teachers, beginners and experts. It's a great way to share, learn, and keep connected.
Our monthly Readers Studio Teleconferences have become very popular — and for good reason! They're a great way to share, learn, and get re-energized. It's hard to describe how good it feels to hear the voices of your friends and colleagues on these calls. When you register for The Readers Studio, we'll be sure to let you know when we meet and how to join us.

After you've marked your calendar, register online or call us at 800-804-2184. If you'd like to join us for the special pre-conference class, “Color, Costume And Choreography,” be sure to add it to your cart. You can use our convenient order form to register.
Next, give the hotel a call at 718-565-8900 and reserve your room NOW at our special room rate of $139 for the nights you'll be joining us. You won't get the bill until you check out, but if you don't reserve your room now, you might be out of luck later!
Remember, we invite you to come early!! Your registration investment of $365 includes everything above, including the bus ride into Manhattan on Wednesday AND your tickets for BOTH the Friday Lunch N' Learn AND the Saturday banquet.
The community fun is a huge part of the fun of The Readers Studio and we don't want you to miss out on any of it! That's why we've made the price all-inclusive and insisted on keeping the room rate of $139 for the 4th year in a row. (The room rate is good for the entire week of The Readers Studio: from Monday, April 19 — Wednesday, April 28.)

And once again, to make it even easier to say yes to The Readers Studio, we're happy to help you finance your investment with a payment plan. The sooner you register, the more time you have to make your payments. Through February 14th, you may pay $183/month for 2 months (credit cards only). If you'd like to take advantage of the payment plan, just send us an email at tarot @ tarotschool.com or call us at 800-804-2184 and we'll set it up for you.

The Readers Studio gets bigger every year, and 2010 will be better than ever! With more days in the hotel block, a socializing & sightseeing adventure into Manhattan and our all-new Readers Studio Banquet, you'll have more chances than ever to lose yourself in our extraordinary Tarot community.
Just click here to send in your affordable tuition via secure order form. (If you'd like to take advantage of our payment plan, email us or give us a call at 800-804-2184. Remember, the sooner you register, the more time you'll have to spread out the payments.)
We can't wait to give you a big warm welcome in 2010!
Bright blessings and love,
